Evolving news on the science, writing and thinking about Near Death Experiences (NDEs)

Another Week Another Daily Mail article!

Follow up article to the original one. Another British newspaper is also interested in this. There are some bits that I don’t actually say, or are not quite the same as what I said, but generally a good article that gets people thinking hopefully.

  1. Yeah this is interesting as it goes into simulation or game theory. This is a common recurring consensus that we are currently asleep in a state hooked up to a simulated reality. I have heard many theories about this. The problem is we don’t know how to wake up from our dream if this is the case. And it also goes to show that what we are may not even be what we seem. We could be gods. But we don’t know we are. We probably used our own technology or power to simulate are own realities but in the process we become so integrated into it we don’t want to wake up. Either way it’s something to think about. Also we do mostly acknowledge people experiencing Heaven but there have also been Hell experiences.

Just 4 years ago you were like someone I looked up to so much.

I knew you were religious but you were still down to earth and collected. But over the years I saw you slowly losing your grip and I was telling myself he’s just being quirky. Then I told myself he’s just having a phase.

But now? After this article and some prior stuff the past months?

You won’t like to hear this but Orson… I think you need to slow down a bit and take a break. You are losing your credibility…

Regarding filtering Data from Parnia or other scientists and making sense of their science / medical language you still seem on point and that is a relief but anything else currently… It is so sad to see and it makes me worry.

Please… and I mean it well… take a break and calm down.

You have lost yourself in something that will hurt your credibility and work in the long run and I would be so sad to see another bright mind getting swallowed by the masses of conspiracy theorists.

    • Denise, I appreciate your comment and concern for me. I also understand your position and why you say this. I recently created a sub thread to try to separate religious stuff from the scientific stuff.

As for these newspapers articles, you need to understand that they have focused on just one aspect of my writing…writing which is now actually quite old…I have been saying this kind of thing for 15 years. Moreover, I did not approach the newspaper, they approached me and they have created 2 articles in the past month, another paper created a story based on it (and embellished it) and it is possible another more serious newspaper will write one about this again soon. I am not the one accelerating this!

I have created two books that are similar in that they cover the knowledge we have about NDEs are their implications…one is for general readers and one is for those with an interest in Christ knowing that not everyone shares my views and some are offended by them or not ready for them. Again, I am trying to do that with the blog, although WordPress is a bit crappy in that respect.

I would ask you to elaborate on your comment about conspiracy theories. Not sure what you are referring to there. Simulation theory? The existence of Hell? Both are worthy of exploring through discussion. I work in science, and I have met many highly intelligent colleagues with Ph.Ds in serious scientific disciplines that believe we are living in an AI generated simulation. The reason for this is that they have come to understand that our observable universe and life could not have come into existence by natural means and prefer any explanation other than the ones provided by religions.

Just to clarify, I do not believe we are living in an AI generated simulation…as a Christian and as a scientist, I believe we are living in a created dimension with a specific purpose. It is not the true reality though, so in essence it shares many characteristics of a simulation. The evidence for it not being the true reality comes from NDEs and again religion. (Also a little bit from quantum mechanics). I have believed this in various forms for over 30 years. My first attempt at a novel in 1996 explored this line of thinking.

Lastly, if it is the reference to Hell that is causing you trouble, as it does many, again I point to the fact that it is not the major thrust of my writing…far from it, but I have felt the need to focus on it more since Parnia’s consensus statement wrongly dismissed these experiences as not being authentic NDEs, when they are. Moreover, my faith, which I have followed for nearly 40 years now, warns of this place. Given those two points, I believe there is nothing more important than stopping people ending up there. However, point taken…I will tone it down.

I will continue to post articles or podcasts that reference my writing though. These will inevitably be about the subject that is most controversial, just ignore them. I will also continue to present data on NDEs as and when it emerges.

You will also be relieved to hear that I have said all I really want to say on the subject of Hell and simulation theory for now on this blog, but it is possible that you may be hearing more from me on the subject in the wider media. I repeat…if Hell is real (as NDEs suggest it is) then there is nothing more important to me than trying to stop people ending up there…can you think of something more important?

    Denise,

I find it offensive in how u talked to Orson. Telling him to slow down and calm down . Why? To ease ur anxiety?

It sounds more like u need external validation due to being insecure of Orson’s religious beliefs , as if that somehow causes his scientific analysis to be less authentic , and that cause u anxiety because u rely on or leaned heavily into Orson.

Orson’s beliefs do not change the critical analysis of factual things talked about or presented in various scientific literature .

So rather than telling Orson to calm down on his own blog , either leave , or manage ur anxiety without needing other people to change their behavior when they aren’t doing anything wrong .

    • Hi Bill,
I’ve approved your post as you make a good point about being allowed to express religious views, especially as I try to keep it separate from scientific analysis, but I do not want Denise to leave, I am comfortable with her criticising me. I do disagree with her accusation that I have become unhinged. Nothing has changed for me. I believe exactly the same as I have done for decades.

The fact is that while I strongly object to people attempting to silence religious expression, I agree that this blog is better off with it being separated. Science comes first here.
