Audible versions of books and free ebook weekend

I have created Audible versions of my two NDE books. These are narrated by Amazon’s AI voice, so it can be a bit quirky at times, but it does the job (and it was free!).

I have also made the Kindle versions of my 3 recent books available for free for 48 hours from now. Fill yer boots!

As always, if you read or listen to my books, and you like them, please please please at least rate them, or better still, write review.

  1. As an audiobook narrator and producer, I hate AI haha. It’s always so obvious when you listen to it and it never has any emphasis or emotion where needed. Especially for fiction where you have different characters and often very emotionally charged scenes and dialogue.

If you ever want them done properly, let me know!

    • I get it mate, and I have to say that there are moments when the narrator is clunky, but overall I don’t think it was too bad. Fiction would be awful though. I just wanted to make this available to a wider audience, and could not justify spaffing another few grand up the wall! It kind of works.

      • For non fiction I can imagine it works a lot better, and yes certainly it’s a very good option while the book is new and a proper audiobook is not justifiable. Maybe as a voice actor I’m just more sensitive to hearing the robotic/emotionless features of its voice.

Like I can’t watch a youtube video that has an AI voice over plugged into it, it just seems rushed and cold haha.

I totally agree. I don’t like AI bots. I enjoyed reading your books and I enjoy Darren podcast Seeking I.

  4. Amazon’s AI voice is absolutely awful, it’s just robotic. It would be vastly preferable to convert the ebook into a pdf and open in the Edge browser and get one of the AI voices on that to read it.

Really loved your list—especially “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck,” it was one of the first audiobooks I listened to when I started my Audible free trial. That one really shifted how I see failure and self-worth.

If anyone’s curious, I recently put together a short review of the audiobooks that helped me most during the trial:

My apologies for diverging from the theme of your post, but Parnia Lab recently uploaded a YouTube video (after months of silence) that provides a quick overview of what NDEs/ REDs are about. Nothing new, but I do like the brief refutation of the arguments that are used by skeptics and materialists. Here’s the link:

Hello, Pablo, good afternoon here from Brazil!Excellent report you shared on the blog, thank you for that. It’s really good to see that some professionals in science are beginning to acknowledge these facts, which, in my view, will soon be proven from a dualist perspective.I wish you a great start to the week in your country!

Hello, Ben! Good afternoon from Brazil!
How are you? I hope all is well!

I’ve been away from the blog for a while due to my intense focus on my studies, as my course is in the final stretch of graduation (I’m studying Law, in my case). The course requires a lot of reading and interpretation of codes, and since I will soon take the exam of the Brazilian Bar Association to practice law, I’ve been a bit distant from the site.

I saw that you gave an interview to a foreign YouTuber (I believe from the USA), and I plan to watch it soon.

I wish you a great start to the week, and the same to all the members of this blog in their respective countries!

Ben, if I may, I would like to bring up a subject that I consider relevant to the investigation of consciousness, particularly regarding its phenomena.
Recently, I have been reading some articles published in Nature about the Psi phenomenon, including a study, criticisms, and related replies.
Unfortunately, statistics is not my area of expertise, so I am far from being able to provide a well-founded opinion. However, I noticed that the skeptics involved strongly criticized the statistical method used in the study.
If you are interested, I can share the articles here:

Ben, I believe I have come across an article of great relevance for the scientific recognition of PSI phenomena.
It is a publication in American Psychologist, a journal of very high scientific impact, which presents statistical evidence in favor of certain PSI phenomena — especially those related to the Ganzfeld effect.

I consider this a true breakthrough, as it not only reinforces the statistical validity of these phenomena but also invites us to go further in the investigation of consciousness and its manifestations.

I highly recommend reading it, as it is a publication of great value:

    • Hi Lucas,

      Thanks for posting this.

The abstract certainly points to an interesting article, but given its age (2018), the fact I would have to pay for it and that the article itself while providing commentary on the status of PSI research and the weight of evidence pointing to the phenomena being real, appears not to contain any ground-breaking original research revelations in it, means I won’t be buying it.

Rather it is yet another call by an expert in the field to his colleagues in the wider scientific community to understand that the data suggests these phenomena cannot currently be explained by physicalist theories and that we need to increase the intellectual investment in further research. Yes, I am sure he provides good evidence to support this call in his article, but this evidence has already been around for a while. If researchers had listened to him, then by now we might have a large scale study that provides unequivocal proof…sadly we do not, just like we do not have a large enough study to prove (or disprove) that NDEs are real.

Keep looking, keep digging, keep posting on here, and wherever else you go…it is appreciated!

      Thanks,

      Orson.

      Hello, Megina!
Greetings from South America, more precisely from Brazil.
It is wonderful to see that the blog brings together members from so many countries and continents, which greatly enriches the exchange of information about NDEs and the phenomena related to consciousness.

Here in Brazil, it is now 3:00 p.m. on this Thursday, September 11.
I would also like to take this moment to express my respect for the people of the United States, who today remember the 24th anniversary of such a tragic and significant event.

Hi Ben, I hope you’re doing well!

There is a blog from my country called “Psychographed Works” (translation of “Obras Psicografadas”), from which I have been sharing some findings with you.

The blog’s administrator and founder, Vitor Moura, investigates scientific and parapsychological articles from around the world. He also dedicates himself to rigorously examining a phenomenon widely studied in Brazil, known as psychography. This is a practice that, I believe, is also researched by parapsychologists in other countries, possibly under different names, and involves the supposed writing of a medium in communication with a disembodied consciousness.

It is true that, according to research, much of it is considered fraudulent. However, there are more consistent cases that have been carefully studied, such as the work of the Italian researcher Dr. Patrizio Tressoldi.

I highly recommend the blog, which also provides some original articles in English.
(Note: the content is in Portuguese but can easily be translated into English or other native languages using Google Translate.)

I wish everyone an excellent weekend in your respective countries!

  13. I posted a link to an article I thought was interesting. Even though it doesn’t really touch on out of body experiences it talks about consciousness and the fuzzy decision of determining whether a lab grown brain is conscious or not.

I recently finished reading a book about out of body experiences. I hope to give a brief summary soon.

    • Seems the link didn’t get posted. The article was called *Tiny ‘brains’ grown in the lab could become conscious and feel pain — and we’re not ready*.

  15. Hey guys, quick stop to say Parnia featured in a couple articles of Scientific American special on consciousness. He clearly states that he thinks consciousness “endures” after death. No caveats anymore. All the usual names are also there (Martial, Borjin, etc.).

    • Well done Z. That’s actually a pretty good article, although:
Other scientists flatly disagree. “When you have an NDE, you must have a functioning brain to store the memory, and you have to survive with an intact brain so you can retrieve that memory and tell about it,” Kondziella says. “You can’t do that without a functioning brain, so all those arguments that NDEs prove that there’s consciousness outside the brain are simply nonsense.”
They miss the obvious question…is memory stored in the brain?
Anyway, I actually felt it was very balanced. They didn’t give too much weight to Bjorgijin, and Martial seems a little less fanatical in her position. Her study will fail to show anything new…only 100 patients.

    • What I am referring to is the article on NDEs, it is up to date and very good. Basically summarises the current situation pretty well and in a balanced fashion.

Might do a summary of it myself as there is more on martial’s study.
